Quilled Snowflakes

Snowflakes are very easy and fun to make. All you need is one loose roll for the center and three basic shapes in groups of six. Nineteen pieces as big or small as you like, and you have a lovely six-point snowflake!

On my website HERE there is a variety of different shaped examples and patterns to copy, instructions, tips and project suggestions.

This short video is only 1:18min long.

Have a wonderful Christmas holiday.
Stay safe and be well.

 Hello, February!  🌺

Quilled hearts for Valentine's, or any time, are very easy. Make two loose circles the same size, shape each into a teardrop and glue sides together.

I have a few examples and instructions, and how to get centers at the tops, on my web page HERE.

Enjoy what you do and be well!

Quilled Snowflakes

From the Archives:

Snowflakes are SO easy!

I like making them to tie on packages or give as ornament gifts. Below, I used white gold on edge English paper strips. I like this paper, it is thinner and easier to use with miniature pieces.

(Click on the photos to enlarge.)

This is approximately 1-1/2 inches in diameter. When making these I try to hide all paper seams and no traces of glue can show anywhere, especially on the back.

English crimson quilling strips with shiny metallic silver edge.

Silver holofoil on white English paper strips.

These simple and easy snowflakes are in my book. So small they fit as candy toppers and on trinket matchboxes.

This is one of my largest I have made for hanging as wall art. It is 12" in diameter and made from 1-inch wide crimped strips of construction paper. I only used four shapes plus the center coil. The strips are 12 inches in length. The crimping makes it more sturdy and I used a wooden dowel to roll the strips. I finished it by spraying very lightly with a glitter spray.

I made this pink snowflake many years ago. The instructions can be found HERE on the NAQG website.

I made this snowflake project for a magazine in 2008. It is double-rolled using two colors. I was disappointed in the quality/size on their website so I made a super
large one you can view (and use for a pattern) by clicking the photo.

Enjoy and have a fantastic day!

Quilled Eyeballs from Archives

This is an oldie for my new followers. I ran across these the other day and I am thinking about making them larger (really big) to send to the grandkids next week :-) I will definitely post a photo if I get this done. (Didn't get it done, sigh)

The original 2009 post with instructions for eyeballs and the tiny box is HERE .

Quilled Hearts ~ Valentine's Day Cards

These are easy and fun to create. Quilled hearts (two teardrop shapes glued side-by-side) and a little bit of twine. I like to use eccentric loose rolls before shaping the larger hearts.

The teardrops are 4, 6 and 8 inch strips.

 8 and 24 inch teardrops

4 inch teardrops

I used free fonts from DaFont website.

Have a great day!

Quilling with Whimsiquills

Pat Caputo of Quilling with Whimsiquills has the most gorgeous quilled valentine on her latest blog post and she is sharing the pattern. Take a close-up look at Pat's valentines ... they are perfect, as always. Pat has been quilling longer than I have and does not use a quilling tool ... she rolls with her fingers! She is a good friend, actually my mentor for quilling, and if you don't already know, she has the largest supplies of quilling papers, accessories and books in the world (and she ships worldwide last time I checked).

Happy weekend everyone!

"Inchies" Quilled Valentines

I made these little two-inch Valentine's Day cards with a silver embossed inchie, raised and embellished with quilling, punched hearts and a tiny red crystal. I stamped on white gloss paper for a little place to write a few words inside. The 1/8 inch quilling strips are silver gilded on edge garnet paper made in England. The shimmer of the silver is gorgeous in person. Click on the pictures to enlarge.

A tisket, a tasket ..

quilled eyeballs in a basket!

  • 6" black for the pupil
  • 12" any color for the iris
  • 72" of bright white Lake City paper - yes, three strips of paper. If you use another brand and the paper is thick, use less (60")
I shaped the tightroll on a 1/2" round dowel (wooden, marble, hard foam) and brushed tacky craft glue inside first. When that dried I brushed a coat of Beacon Liquid Laminate on the top. A red Sharpie ultra fine point works best for the squiggles.

Credit for this eyeball pattern goes to Patricia, the owner of Whimsiquills. Thank you, Pat!

Do you like the tiny box? I think these would be perfect for any holiday and it takes so little to fill them up. I am not an illustrator by any means, but I did make this quick template to show how easy the box is to make with a 4"x4" piece of cardstock. The bottom is 1" wide so score in at 1-1/2" on two sides first. I forgot to indicate that on the template but most people would figure it out.

Thanks for stopping by :)
Enjoy!

Shades of Autumn

I was googling for some pictures of autumn and have linked some favorites below. When fall arrives each year, I think of watching Martha Stewart's shows in the 90's. She used to have the best fall decorations, crafts and recipes. I think she still does.

I copied part of a 60 Minutes commentary by Andy Rooney. He says:

I think if we had a vote, fall would probably be most people's favorite season. Some people who like fall call it autumn. I never use the word "autumn." It sounds pretentious. The down side to fall is it's the beginning of the end of everything. Flowers die, the leaves dry up and come off the trees, water in the lake gets too cold to swim in and vacation's are over. First thing you know someone's trying to sell you a Christmas tree.

Here are the pictures linked on that page. They are a few years old, but are gorgeous, adorable, unusual. Kids and pumpkins just go together, don't they?

Enjoy the autumn season :)
